Why we love Peterborough

Peterborough is a wonderful, vibrant city with a friendly, small-town feel. Here’s what some of our members have to say about the place we’re calling home.

Aukje:

I love that in Peterbough there are so many things to do and things to get involved in. I love that it’s small enough that when I go to events I almost always see someone I know and yet it’s large enough that everyone doesn’t know everyone’s business. And I love that I can get out on the water without even leaving the city. But if I want to leave, within 1/2 hrs drive there are so many more places to get on the water.

Linda and Arthur:

Peterborough’s a nature lovers paradise. There are numerous parks for cycling, walking, & nordic skiing, of which Jackson Park & the Parkway corridor are standouts. It’s great city for cycling. Rivers & lakes right in town & abundant wilderness just north of town offer swimming, canoeing & kayaking opportunities.

Al and Linda:

Peterborough has a very professional theatre guild https://peterboroughtheatreguild.com/, a bi-weekly free concert at Crary Park during the summer https://www.ptbomusicfest.ca/, live bands every night at the Black Horse Pub, and a great outdoors fall folk festival ending with Celtic singer Loreena McKennitt this year https://www.peterboroughfolkfest.com/2023-festival. There are two sand swimming beaches on Peterborough’s Little Lake: Beavermead on the east and Roger’s Cove on the north. Both have lifeguards and are checked regularly for water quality, and Roger’s Cove has a splash pad for kids.

Pati:

Ptbo’s arts community is vibrant, maybe because it’s a university town. It has a real downtown that feels like Toronto in the 60s. You can get anywhere in 15 minutes, 20 with traffic. And the beach is only a ten-minute drive from our site.

Sue and Phil:

We’re out-of-towners for now, but we love that there are so many local restaurants in Peterborough where we can find a fabulous vegetarian meal. If you're not vegetarian, you might not understand, but it's often difficult to find food when we travel.

Therese and Sunil:

We just moved to Peterborough from suburban Ottawa, and so far we absolutely love it here. It’s so great to be able to get to a grocery store on foot, or meet friends for a coffee. I think we’ve done more walking since we arrived than we have for a long time. The farmers’ market has such a happy atmosphere, with people bumping into friends and vendors chatting with their regular customers. And the food scene seems to be very good. We haven’t managed to check out all the restaurants just yet, but we’re working on it.
